
Geographic context
The region of Kohgiluye and Buyer Ahmad is located in the southwest of Iran. The capital of the region is the city of Yasuj and the other main population centers are: Dena, Bahmei, Kohgiluye (Dehdasht) and Gachsaran.
Climate
The Kohgiluye and Buyer Ahmad region has two climatic zones: - the hot zone is located in the southern and western territories of the region where there is a hot and dry climate, with numerous seasonal and local winds; - the cold climate zone is located in the northern and eastern territories of the region which correspond to the southernmost part of the Zagros Mountains. These territories are wetlands in which there are vast oak forests and some sources of large rivers.
History and culture
Archaeological studies show that large areas of the Kohgiluye region and Buyer Ahmad were the site of early human settlements in the prehistoric era, while the beginning of the historical period of the region corresponds to that of the Elamite empire. The artifacts found in the Tell Khosrou and Tell Mohre-i sites, in the Lama's funeral complex and in other places, show that traces of sedentariness and civilization were present in this region even before the arrival of the Aryan population. In the Elamite age, this area had a fundamental importance, in fact, in many places many works dating back to that period were discovered, of which the most important consists in the funeral complex of the site of Chal-e Shahin dating back to the second millennium . C. and is located in the village of Lama. From the time of the Achaemenids up to the beginning of the Islamic era, the territorial domains of the Lor people of the Kohgiluye region and Buyer Ahmad were known as 'Arjan', territories that in turn were part of the ancient Persia countries. In the Sasanian period the country of 'Arjan' was divided into two parts, called 'Zamigan' and 'Qobad Khorre'. In the not too distant past, the region of Kohgiluye and Buyer Ahmad was part of the Fars region. Until, at the beginning of the year 1342 of the solar egira, its territories were divided between the regions of Fars and Khuzestan. At the beginning of the year 1342 of the solar egira, through the ratification of the National Parliament of the time, the area of Kohgiluye and Buyer Ahmad was separated from the Fars and Khuzestan regions and a governorship was established that included those territories. The city of Yasuj, which until then had not been inhabited, was designated as the capital of the governorate, which later officially became a region.
Souvenirs and handicrafts
Among the craft activities of the nomadic peoples of the Kohgiluye region and Buyer Ahmad can be counted the different types of manufactured fabrics. The handicrafts and souvenirs of this region are: carpets, kilims, cows, prayer mats, traditional cushions, craft saddlers and embroidered fabrics.
Local cuisine
The traditional dishes of the Kohgiluye region and Buyer Ahmad are simple foods that for years are consumed especially by the nomads. Among these types of dishes we can mention the following: Kalle Jushak (Kalak Suz), Telit Piyaz, Ash-and Karde Hore, Shole Shiri, (Shir Berenj), Levi, Shole (Berenj) Badami, Shole Masi, Shole Duvi, Shole Mashaki, Polo Mahalli, Abgusht, Dampokht, Qorme, Ash-e Dangu, Polo Kangari, Polo Lizaki and Mast-e Bilhar.
