Iran Meets Italy at the Hotel Mediterraneo in Rome.
For the first time in Italy, Persian cuisine is the protagonist of a highly successful cultural event at the Hotel Mediterraneo.
Roma An unprecedented event celebrating the fusion of two great culinary traditions: Iranian and Italian, was held at the prestigious Hotel Mediterraneo in Rome. The event, which attracted an extraordinary turnout and a success beyond all expectations, was attended by institutional representatives, tourism professionals, journalists, and food culture enthusiasts.
Persian Hospitality Conquers Rome
The event opened with a speech by the director of the Hotel Mediterraneo. Dr. Bettoja's speech, which recounted his personal experience in Iran, was particularly moving: "When this initiative was proposed to me, I enthusiastically accepted because a few years ago I had the fortune of visiting your beautiful country. What struck me most was the hospitality and warmth of the people. They embraced us even though we were complete strangers."
Dr. Bettoja recognized the project as a unique opportunity to enrich Rome as a metropolitan city, opening the doors to emerging culinary traditions on the international scene, and emphasized how Iranian hospitality represents a model from which the Italian hospitality industry can still learn.
Persian Cuisine: Art, Health, and Tradition
Iranian Ambassador Dr. Sabouri offered an even deeper perspective on the meaning of Persian cuisine: “Iranian cuisine, before being a collection of ingredients and recipes, is a story; a story born from Iran's diverse climates. From the green north with its aromatic, sweet-and-sour stews, to the hot, energetic south with its fish dishes and warm spices.”
He also emphasized how the Iranian table is not simply a place to eat, but "an arena for exchanging affection, showing respect, conversing, laughing, creating memories, and even resolving conflicts." A concept that resonates strongly with the Italian convivial tradition.
A Bridge Between Two Millennial Civilizations
In his speech, Dr. Emami, Director of the Iranian Cultural Institute in Rome, proudly emphasized the profound significance of this gathering: “For me, as an Iranian, it is a source of great pride to be here with you. We have been invited into a world of diversity, delicious flavors, and culinary brilliance. But behind this beauty lies an authenticity that testifies to an ancient civilization and the greatness of a nation's spirit.”
The director emphasized how the event represents a platform for three fundamental pillars of Iranian culture: the unique cuisine of Iranian women, family dining, and the famous Persian hospitality, summarized in the motto "The guest is the beloved of God."
Food Tourism: A New Frontier of Collaboration
All participants agreed on the enormous potential of food tourism as an opportunity for collaboration between Iran and Italy. As the Director of the Cultural Institute emphasized: "Food tourism is one of the best opportunities in the current tourism industry in Iran and Italy. I invite you to collaborate more closely towards this goal, both artistically and commercially."
A Success That Opens New Perspectives
The event concluded with a tasting of traditional Iranian dishes that thrilled everyone in attendance, confirming that cuisine can truly be a universal language capable of uniting cultures and people.
This historic meeting represents only the beginning of a broader collaboration between Iran and Italy in the field of gastronomic culture, opening new prospects for cultural, tourism, and trade exchanges between two countries that share millennia of history, art, and culinary tradition.
Special thanks go to the Gruppo Hotel Mediterraneo Roma for making this pioneering event possible, celebrating the authenticity of cultures and promoting the development of cultural tourism.
